Social Health Friday – Navajo Nation Suicide Prevention Week

Family Movie Night

 The Division of Behavioral and Mental Health Services (DBMHS) promotes the importance of social health in Native families. In partnership with Office of Dine Youth (ODY), Family Movie Night is being held at Fort Defiance ODY Multipurpose Gym on Friday, September 13 at 5:30 PM. Family Movie Night focuses on relaxation and staying connected through family engagement.  

Social health refers to a person’s ability to form meaningful relationships with other people and interacting in healthy, positive ways (yoli.com). The way you connect to people around you, adapt to different social situations, and experience a sense of belonging all contribute to social health.

Social health is important to your life because having meaningful relationships with other people can provide a sense of security and can reduce stress dramatically. Yoli.com states that social health impacts physical health. People who are less social are more likely to experience health problems such as high blood pressure.

DBMHS encourages everyone to live socially healthy by practicing social skills to build confidence, being yourself, finding people who share your interests, and by surrounding yourself with people who encourage you.
